About Our Company

Forrest Mourning Deathcare is a Canadian owned and operated company that makes completely biodegradable burial shrouds from natural, unbleached fibres of linen and cotton as an alternative to traditional non-biodegradable burial containers.

Our mission is to provide people with an environmentally positive, affordable and meaningful way to return to the earth, while supporting funeral professionals by offering thoughtful deathcare alternatives.

The burial shrouds are designed and sewn in Toronto, with materials sourced through exclusively Canadian suppliers. All packaging and shipping materials are plastic free and recyclable or biodegradable where possible.

Zoë Sherwood is the heart and mind behind Forrest Mourning Deathcare. She holds a Class-1 Funeral Director Licence in the province of Ontario, graduating with honours from the Humber College Funeral Services program in 2015. After working for a few years she left the industry, feeling disenchanted, to take care of her health. This eventually led to a career shift into fashion and design. All the while she was thinking of how she could best help to improve the industry she is so passionate about.

Forrest Mourning is the culmination of her education, skills and experiences coming together to create a thoughtful offering that intends to improve modern burial practices, inspire people to make more environmentally conscious decisions, and create a lasting positive impact on the lives of the people she works with.

Natural burial allows for a profound demonstration of gratitude to the earth for supporting us throughout our lives. Our bodies are a gift, providing nutrients for soil regeneration and promoting the health of surrounding ecosystems.

May new life burst forth.
