Our Burial Shrouds

Our natural burial shroud is completely biodegradable; made from soft, undyed linen for the main fabric and unbleached natural cotton for the interior pocket, ties, handles and threads - that means that everything including the thread will naturally decompose. Impressively, linen can biodegrade in as little as two weeks.

Linen fabric is made from flax, a low-maintenance, highly sustainable crop which requires very little water or pesticides to grow, making it an ideal fabric to work with.

The shroud is designed to make carrying easy and safe with four sets of carrying straps that support the body and allow up to eight people to comfortably assist in carrying. It is suitable for people up to 6’2” tall, and has been tested up to 350 lbs.

The pocket inside of the shroud can work in a few ways:

• As is, the second layer of fabric will provide additional absorbency and strength.

• An untreated wood board (up to 1"x10"x6') may be inserted as a backboard for additional strength and improved ease for lowering into the grave. This is entirely personal preference as the carrying straps already provide 8 points of support throughout the shroud.

• Notes and natural mementos can be tucked inside. Please ensure they comply with cemetery standards.

• A naturally absorbent layer of comber noil can be inserted into the pocket to help prevent leaks.
